If you'd like your own BitlBee server, feel free to download it from BitlBee.Org.
The server currently runs BitlBee version 1.2.8 (latest version available right now is 1.2.8, courtesy of the latest versions Web service), with version 0.6.3 (latest version is ) of the Skype plugin.
Hey, do you like coding? Do you like getting paid to hack on free software? If so, ASNET would like to sponsor a feature request for BitlBee.
As you probably know by now, BitlBee groups all your contacts into two rough categories: online and all. In particular, there's no way to convince BitlBee to give you any other subset of your contacts. (Yes, you can tell your IRC client to do it for you, but that's cheating.) Here's the actual feature requset:
Instead of implementing only a single &bitlbee channel, BitlBee should allow you to create channels with subsets of your contacts. Ideally, there'd be a pattern language (potentially similar to Mutt's pattern language) for specifying what goes in every channel. You can then join as many or as few of your channels as you want, and switch between them freely using your IRC client's existing capabilities. You might have one channel for work contacts, one for WoW friends, and one for family members, for example. Now, let's say you play WoW with some of your coworkers; that's not a problem, since they can be in both your WoW_friends and work_contacts channels by simply matching both filters (patterns). Contact groups from other networks can also map neatly into channels, using this technique.
You are responsible for delivering bug-free code. If your code is accepted upstream, it's assumed to be bug-free. If it's not accepted upstream, it's assumed to be bug-free if no bugs have been found after one day of auditing and 30 days of testing on bitlbee1.asnetinc.net. As soon as your code is assumed bug-free with no proof to the contrary, your cheque will be cut and posted.
